Favre.. What to do, What to do
Brett Favre is a great hall of fame caliber quarterback at or near the end of his career. He had a great season last year, but he got lucky. Everything went right. The Pack had an easy schedule and his team stayed healthy.
The Packers are in a weak division and played the Chiefs, Raiders Panthers, Broncos and Rams who have an average of a 5-11 record. That’s eleven wins right off the bat. That will not be the case this year if he returns. This year, those teams get replaced with the Colts, Bucs, Titans, Texans and Jaguars with an average record of 10-6. That’s a big difference.
In last season's retirement speech he really sounded like he retired this time. I mean he was crying and everything. You gotta believe a guy when he's crying right? I mean its super embarrassing to cry so if you do it you must be reeeeally serious. Well I guess not.
Now the Packers are in a tough spot. They can trade Favre, use Favre as a backup QB, start Favre or somehow get him to stay retired.
The first option of trading Favre stinks for the Packers. He should always remain a Packer and not ever a Bear, Dolphin, Raven or who else needs a QB? Chiefs. I don’t care if he goes to the AFC. It just looks bad seeing him in another team’s uniform. Like Joe Montana in a Chiefs uni. Not good.
Second option: Back-up QB to Rodgers. Also not good. As soon as Aaron Rodgers goofs up for like two games in a row, everybody is going to be saying bring in Favre. That’s too much pressure for Rodgers. He will be doomed from the start. Remember, Rodgers was a first round pick in 2005.
Which takes us to the third option: Start Favre. Like I said, he's not going to be as lucky as he was last year. He'll get so picked off you'd think he was a half opened package of Christmas cookies at the post office. Plus the Packers already went through the draft thinking he was gone. Their team has been converted to a Favre-less team. It's time to move on.
And that takes us to the fourth and only good option: Somehow get Favre to stay retired. How can the Packers do this? Well, he looked good in the Wrangler's commercial. The Packers have to get him in a movie. All they need to do is get some "producer" and a couple of "actresses" or "actors", depending on what he's interested in, to start saying he'd be great in a new movie they are considering.
How about a down and out retired NFL QB that pawns his superbowl ring to buy some booze, gets busted and then part of his parole is that he has to coach some reform school kid's football team and takes them to the state championship. Along the way the kids learn about team work, get his ring back (not without some wacky turmoil) and he falls in love with the art teacher. Everyone lives happily ever after. I'd make it a comedy with some serious parts. Anne Hathaway as the art teacher and Chris Brown as the young QB that’s got talent but a baaaaad attitude.
