The GVG Report

I continued with my NFL ref summary. I wanted to see if certain refs called more or less penalties against losing teams than winning teams. I guess I wanted to see if they favored one team more than another. Kind of like an unfairness meter.

I provide the following table for your review:

Columns 11 and 12 show the number of penalties called on the losing team that exceed the number called on the winning team. For instance, Tony Corrente called 20 more penalties on the losing team (negative number) than the winning team in his 11 games. This totaled a difference in yardage of 166 yards or 15.1 yards per game more against the losing team. On the other hand, Jeff Triplette called 26 more penalties against the winning team (positive number) than the losing team totaling 282 yards over 11 games for 25.6 yards per game. Tony Corrente calls more penaltues on the loser thus making it more difficult for them to come back and Jeff Triplette calls more penalties on the winning team thus making a come back easier. All of the other ref crews seemed somewhat even with Ed Hochuli completely unbiased and Peter Morelli, Terry McAulay and Walt Anderson very close.

Column 13 shows the record of the teams that were called for the most penalties. The more heavily penalized team is 2-7 with Gene Steratore and 7-3 with Jeff Triplette.

I'm not sure if anyone provides this type of information about the "Third Team". Just the GVG Report.
