Pittsburgh Steelers - How Good Are They?

Now lets look at the Steelers schedule and see how it relates, if at all, to the SuperBowl.

  1. Did the Steelers play anyone like the Cards?

  2. What was the team like in the last two weeks?

The combined record of the opponents they beat was 43-47 (47.78%) Average.

The combined record of the opponents they lost to was 22-8 (73.33%) Very good.

The closest game match I could find is the Chargers - Steelers game in Week 11.

This game was lopsided to the Steelers side but made even by the Ref. There were 13 penalties called on the Steelers for 115 yards and 1 penalty on the Chargers for 5 yards. Should have been a blowout.

The Chargers Passer Rating was 42.5

The Steelers Passer Rating was 94.2

The Chargers Rusher Rating was 90.1

The Steelers Rusher Rating was 80.5

The Steelers shut down the high powered passing game but sacrificed their defense and allowed the run. But the run was fairly neutral and the Chargers couldn't stop the Steelers passing game.

Their Strength of Schedule rating was a 14.76 (rank 15)

Number 2:  The Steelers beat two very good and very different teams in the Chargers and the Ravens. They shut down the big passing game of the Chargers but allowed the run. They completely shut down the weaker passing of the Ravens and were able to hold the run too. The Ratings...

Steelers Passing Rating was 86.8

Opp Passing Rating was 70.5

Steelers Rusher Rating was 61.1

Opp Rusher Rating was 37.1

It looks like this game comes down to the Cards passing game again. Can they move the ball on the Steelers? The run will get stopped and not be a factor. The Cards defense has gotten much better but it is not better than the Steelers. The Steelers won the turnover war 6-1. Rushing was dominated by the Steelers.

Summary:

The Chargers passer rating for the season was 104.23 and Rusher Rating was 84.6. When they played the Steelers it went to 42.5 and 90.1.
