Calculating Wattage for a UPS Battery Backup System
I decided to get a battery back-up system for the sensitive electronics (expensive) in my house.
I used my Kill-A-Watt device to calculate the wattage used as each device was turned on so I can purchase the proper wattage for my UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).
My set-up in the basement: 391 Watts
Sharp Aquos 52" - 188 Watts
Onkyo Receiver - 98 Watts at 60 volume
Verizon Set Top Box - 27 Watts
Play Station 3 - 78 Watts
My set-up in the Family Room: 230 Watts
Vizio LCD 47" - 115 Watts
Onkyo Receiver - 93 Watts at 70 volume
Verizon Set Top Box - 22 Watts
My set-up for the computers: 342 Watts
Motorola Router - 37 Watts
Dell Computer 21" Screen - 194 Watts (running a search)
Dell computer 17" Screen - 111 Watts (running a search)
I decided to get the CyberPower CP1000AVRLCD 9-Outlet Intelligent LCD UPS (1000VA/600W) $99.99 at Amazon for each area.
Not sure how much run time I'll have for each, but I feel good knowing I'm protected from spikes and I can power them off smoothly.
